EUR/NAT Runway Safety Go-team mission, Kyiv, Ukraine - 2 to 4 July 2019

ICAO and the Runway Safety Programme Partners have been working together to minimize and mitigate the risks of runway incursions, runway excursions and other events linked to Runway Safety.

An ICAO EUR/NAT Runway Safety Go-Team Visit was carried out to the Kyiv/Zhuliany International Airport (UKKK) from 2 to 4 July 2019. It was launched in support of Safety Enhancement Initiative IE-REST/RSG/02, adopted by the third meeting of the ICAO European Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG-EUR) and related to runway safety team guidance and implementation.

This mission was another step towards reaching the regional goal on establishing and improving Runway Safety Team performance for all EUR/NAT international aerodromes. The Go-Team mission started with a workshop attended by 55 participants from the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine (SAAU), the National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation (NBAAI), Ukraine ANSP, Kyiv/Zhuliany airport and other Ukrainian aerodrome operators, Ukrainian air operators, and ground handling companies.

The work was followed by practical exercises and resulted in a number of recommendations for further implementation given to the Regulator and Service Providers.

ICAO EUR/NAT Office is committed to continue this work to improve safety in the region and to ensure that flying will become even safer. There are two more Runway Safety Go-Teams expected to be deployed by the end of 2019 in the EUR/NAT Regions.
